Leicester Bowling Club Coaching & Safeguarding

Coaching

We have two Qualified Coaches that can offer coaching at Leicester. Danny Curtis and Nev Walker both passed their Level 1 Coaching Award in February 2022. This is the current certificate that is recognized by Bowls England and delivered by Coach Bowls. They are active members of Coach bowls and the membership includes insurance and DBS Checks.

Coaching can be offered to new bowlers joining the club, as well as experienced bowlers wishing to improve their game.

For the past 2 seasons we have ran a coaching session for all members with Martin Shipley. Martin is the Leicestershire Coach and last year was awarded ‘Coach of the Year’ by Bowls England. These workshops are very popular and we hope to continue them for years to come.

Leicester Bowling Club is one of the longest established clubs in the City. It is located 2 miles south of the town centre just off the A5199 (Welford Rd). It has excellent clubhouse facilities and a bowls green that is rated amongst the best in Leicestershire.

Danny and Nev also take the lead on our annual Open Day and try to help new bowlers get to grip with the basics of the game. This is usually held in late May every year and helps attract new members to our club.

Coaching can be either on a one to one basis or in groups throughout the season.

If you would like to take advantage of some free coaching give Danny or Nev a call and they will be more than willing to help.

Safeguarding

Safeguarding is where we as a club have policies and procedures that we actively follow to ensure the wellbeing and safety of all who use our club.  This means all adults and children, not just those who may be deemed as being vulnerable.

Everyone involved in the club is responsible for ensuring these policies and procedures are carried out.

The key aspects of Safeguarding are:

  • Physical Abuse
  • Emotional Abuse
  • Sexual Abuse
  • Neglect
  • Bullying, which has many forms, including physical, emotional and verbal (which includes racism amongst other forms of discrimination).

With adults, the following list applies (Care Act):

  • Self-Neglect
  • Modern Slavery
  • Domestic abuse
  • Discrimination (racism, gender, disability under the Equality Act)
  • Organisational
  • Physical Abuse
  • Sexual Abuse
  • Financial/Material Abuse

As a club, it is our responsibility to be vigilant regarding signs of these things.  They can occur outside of the club or within, but we have an obligation to act if we have any suspicions.

If someone suspects a safeguarding issue or someone discloses something to them, they must not deal with it themselvesThey must also not promise to keep it to themselves.

They must pass on the information to the club’s Safeguarding Officer who will use the proper procedures and channels to deal with it.
